Are you stuck in a fat loss rut? Your body is not changing no matter how hard you train, how clean you eat, how many supps you can down in a day! Sucks huh?

Well…I didn’t believe this for a very long time but there is definitely more to your fat loss goals than just diet and exercise…

If you can’t see yourself making these changes for life then why bother?

When it comes to our optimum health you can see that there are a variety of factors that come into play here. You cannot solely rely on your diet and/or exercise to get your through. You need to be nourished from the inside outside, and through your mind, body and soul. When you are truly happy with your life and the way you work, that is when the results will come.

So when embarking on a new body goal I suggest the following:

1. Sort out your nutrition and exercise plan, and make sure you can live with it forever! Cutting carbs for the rest of your life ain’t gonna work!

2. Plan, plan, plan! Make sure you plan out each week ahead of time. Lock in training sessions, food prep times and grocery shops. There is nothing worse than not being prepared and suddenly collapsing when you aren’t prepared. Grabbing some chicken nuggets from Mc Donalds because you forgot your protein shake is no substitute!

Do you snack?

I want you to think about that question for a second. Think about the meals you have throughout the day, are you adding additional snacks in such as grazing on food whilst cooking? Regular snacking throughout the day, done in a controlled manner can actually help you lose weight. But when you are endlessly snacking on crap, that’s when the kilos start to creep back on.

So remember that snacking throughout the day will keep your metabolism firing but if you snack on the wrong foods then the opposite is going to happen and you will put on weight. A bottle of San Pell flavoured water has a lot of calories and SUGAR which won’t do you any favours!

Video Blog: Calculating Your Carbs

In my video blog last week I discussed the topic of “Carbs: Friend or Foe?” and we identified that carbohydrates are an essential macronutrient for your health and to help you achieve any body goal – bulking, fat loss, maintenance etc… I explained that carbohydrates should not be cut out of your diet as the long term affects are so dramatic and detrimental to your health.

This week I talk about to how determine how many carbs you should be eating per day based on your goals, as like with any other food – if you eating too much or not enough you won’t achieve your dream body.

Video Blog: Carbs…Friend or Foe?

I know SOOOOOO many people who cut out carbohydrates in an effort to lose weight. And yes, don’t get me wrong, going low carb does have it’s benefits and will help with weight loss. But when this is taken too far, the long term effects are drastic and I see people literally crash and burn.

In an effort to lose weight it is ok to reduce your carbohydrate intake, especially processed carbohydrates like breads, pastries, junk food etc… but never drop it too low, or cut it out all together. Carbohydrates are a key energy source and are just as important as protein and fats, but in the right amounts for your body type and goals.

When people cut out carbs for too long they feel extrememly lethargic, cold, angry, depressed, lack energy, skin and nails become worse, issues with bowel movements, digestion weakens and the list goes on. People need to learn that you can easily burn fat and lose weight by eating a healthy array of nutrient dense carbohydrates like vegetables, fruit, brown rice and wholegrains.
